INGREDIENTS

can of whole tomatoes olive oil onion garlic cloves red wine tomato paste salt and pepper sugar crushed red pepper water fresh basil leaves

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

Chop up the onions and garlic finely and saute them in your pan.

Add in the red wine if using and cook for a couple of minutes. Next, add the tomato paste and allow it to caramelize for a few minutes. This makes BIG FLAVOR!

Next, add in the seasonings..don't be shy with the salt and pepper. Tomatoes are acidic and need balancing...that's why the sugar!

COOKING TIP

Simmer on low uncovered for about 45 minutes to an hour and taste for seasoning.
