I’m from the school of thought that pretty much everything in the appetizer world benefits from a condiment on the side. C’mon…tell me that you’d pass up the opportunity to serve a white cheese dipping sauce alongside a big salty pretzel. Hence the need for this marinara dipping sauce.
It just goes with so many deliciously bread-y things.
Like sausage calzones. No….wait—an unbelivably crispy focaccia bread. Or meatball bocce balls (a fav of the kiddos).
A good marinara dip is not just a suggestion. It’s a must-have.
I especially love it because it’s easy.
It uses spices that I already have on hand.
And I can whip it up in 10 minutes.

Like things chunkier? Use crushed tomatoes instead of a can of smooth tomato sauce.
Sauté a little onion in the olive oil before the garlic (this will add a couple of minutes eliminating my “10 minute” claim).
Pop in a sprig of fresh basil while the sauce simmers.
