I have made the same beef tenderloin recipe for over 20 years and it has become a tradition whether served whole at Christmases and family celebrations or as beef sandwiches and sliders at graduation parties and game day gatherings. And it’s always accompanied by a big bowl of this horseradish mustard sauce.

And homemade blue cheese dressing. Because I like options and believe that if one sandwich sauce is good, two are better.

Other easy condiment recipes like this you’ll ♥️: olive oil bread dip, pesto mayonnaise, and easy balsamic glaze. Or give my mascarpone ranch a try along …so good!

What you’ll eat with mustard horseradish sauce

So many good things:

5 simple ingredients

White bowls containing sour cream, Dijon mustard and horseradish on a brown background.
Simple ingredients for Dijon mustard horseradish sauce.

Here’s what to gather from the pantry:

  • Prepared horseradish. You can use creamy horseradish if that’s all you have.
  • Dijon mustard. I’m simple and usually pick up Grey Poupon (especially when I can find it at Costco) but the purist in me loves Maille Dijon.
  • Sour cream. Full fat is best here. Greek yogurt also works too.
  • Kosher salt and black pepper.

2 steps to horseradish mustard sauce

White bowl with horseradish, sour cream and Dijon mustard on dark background.
Add wet ingredients to a bowl.
Horseradish mustard sauce seasoned with salt and pepper in a white bowl.
Season with salt and pepper and stir to combine.
  1. To a medium bowl, add the sour cream, horseradish and mustard. Stir it all together.
  2. Season with salt and pepper and taste. Correct as necessary.

Can it be any easier?

Recipe notes

  • If you don’t have prepared horseradish (which is closest to fresh), you can use creamy horseradish.
  • For maximum flavor, mix the spread up to 4 hours ahead.

Storage

Storage. Refrigerate any leftover sauce in a resealable container for up to a week.

Freeze. I don’t recommend you freeze mustard horseradish sauce.
