I love a savory seasoned pretzel. And I can’t stop eating them when they’re put in front of me at a gathering. So —when I tried Dot’s cinnamon sugar pretzels, I didn’t expect to like them, let alone obsess about whipping up a copycat version.

Like my original seasoned pretzel recipe, this sweet pretzel snack isn’t baked or even cooked in an electric skillet like my husband’s fan favorite cereal mix. The fact that you can make it in under 5 minutes is kind of sweet too.

  • Butter braid pretzels. 1 -10 oz bag. I get mine at Meijer but you can also find them on Amazon.
  • Canola or avocado oil. You can use vegetable oil if that is all you have or safflower oil. Don’t use coconut or olive oils as they’ll affect the taste of the pretzels.

Equipment needed

Two clean brown paper bags act as the mixing bowls. I use grocery store sized bags because they’re the perfect weight. If all you have is a large lunch sack, you might have to use 3-4 tucked inside each other.

Expert seasoned pretzels tactics and tips

white bowl of cinnamon pretzels on a white background.
  • Resist the urge to mix the pretzels in a bowl. The brown bags are a must and help soak up any excess oil and keep the pretzels crunchy.
  • Mix your wet ingredients together in one bowl to guarantee even distribution over the pretzels. Same with the dry. Blend everything together so you don’t end up with more cinnamon in one area than the other.
  • Make the pretzels about 4 hours before you plan to serve them. I recommend serving these the same day you make them.

What to pair with cinnamon pretzels

It’s no secret that we Italians love to nosh and love nothing better than a simple bite alongside a little cocktail. I think these sweet pretzel snack would be a great party sidekick to an espresso martini!

  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup

  • 4 ½ Tablespoons sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons ground cinnamon

Instructions

  • Open the grocery bags and place one inside the other.

  1. How much molasses should be used? It is listed as an ingredient in the text above the recipe, but it isn’t listed in the actual recipe. I”m looking forward to trying these pretzels even though I haven’t tried the Dot’s version. Thanks.

    1. Hi Cindy! I am sorry the molasses got left out of the ingredient list. It is such a small amount (only 1/4 teaspoon) so don’t run to the store for it! And I hope this message reached you in time for the holiday! Happy Holidays to you!
